Founding Partner

Gordon Law Group, P.C. — a Utah-based law firm spanning municipal, litigation, and estate planning practice — is the first firm to deploy CounselKit. Their attorneys and staff co-designed each product through a deep discovery process, ensuring every feature solves a real workflow problem from day one.

Founding Client

Three agents. One practice.

Each product is a standalone AI agent that solves one specific problem exceptionally well — and integrates seamlessly into the way attorneys already work.

  • Read-only MyCase OAuth integration for real-time client & matter lookup
  • Structured email summaries delivered to billing staff (Melissa) for MyCase entry
  • Conversation history with full transcript view per session

  • Two-stage classification: fast heuristic filter + LLM urgency scoring
  • SMS alerts contain metadata only — never the privileged email content itself
  • Google Workspace OAuth integration
  • Configurable urgency rules, alert cadence & quiet-hour windows
  • Prompt-injection hardening, encrypted OAuth tokens, full audit logs

  • RAG-based template retrieval using your firm's own document library
  • Conversational intake: describe the need, Perry asks the right questions
  • Word (.docx) output preserving template styling, formatting & signature blocks
  • Natural-language iterative editing ("make the indemnification stronger")

Every dollar invested returns many more.

Based on actual billing rates and workflows documented during discovery. Partner rate: $395/hr (Josh & Corbin). Paralegal rate: $95/hr. All time estimates are conservative — real upside is higher.

The partnership economics — every product, combined.

$304,815/yr
Annual recovered value across Billy + Miley + Perry — combining time savings and new billable revenue identified during discovery.
+$249,590
Net Year-1 return after GLG's full $55,225 cash investment in the platform — even before SPE revenue share kicks in.
5.5×
Blended Year-1 ROI multiple on the full CounselKit platform — a partnership-scale return, not a tool-scale one.

Recovered value sums the three product-level annual values ($99,540 + $77,025 + $128,250 = $304,815). Net return = recovered value minus GLG's $55,225 cash investment. ROI multiple = recovered value ÷ cash investment, rounded.

Built in sequence. Valuable from day one.

Each product ships and goes live before the next sprint begins — so the firm realizes immediate value at every milestone, not just at the end.

Prepared May 2026 · Solve Technology

Where CounselKit wins — and where we're honest about the gaps.

The legal tech landscape is crowded with Filevine, Clio, Ajax, and Harvey. Here's a clear-eyed look at our competitive position, so you know exactly what you're building.

Strengths

Where CounselKit leads

Voice-first, privilege-safe capture. Billy uses intentional voice — no screen monitoring — preserving attorney-client privilege by design. Ajax's passive screen tracking raises real privilege concerns.

MyCase-native at depth. Ajax targets Clio. Billy is the only voice billing AI purpose-built for MyCase (8am) — a firm that already lives there.

Human-in-the-loop trust architecture. The 5pm digest + Confirm All flow keeps attorneys in control, building adoption faster than fully automated systems touching legal billing.

Bundled vertical depth. Filevine does many things adequately. CounselKit does three specific things exceptionally — billing capture, inbox triage, and litigation doc intelligence — as a unified suite.

Co-ownership moat. GLG's 51/49 SPE makes them a founding business partner with real commercial upside — advocacy no competitor can replicate.

SMB pricing transparency. Milestone-based, fixed scope. No enterprise sales motion or opaque contracts.

Weaknesses

Where we're still building

No passive capture (yet). Ajax and Billables AI run silently in the background. Billy requires intentional voice. Hybrid passive+voice capture is on the v2 roadmap.

Single integration at launch. Billy supports MyCase only. Competitors support Clio, LeanLaw, and Filevine. Clio integrations unlock a much larger addressable market.

No brand recognition yet. Filevine, Clio, and Ajax all have G2 reviews, analyst coverage, and legal tech press. CounselKit is pre-launch.

Compliance maturity gap. Filevine has SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, and ISO certifications today. BAA, SOC 2, and state AI disclosure requirements are open CounselKit items.

Single-firm dependency. All credibility currently rests on GLG. Speed to a second reference customer is critical to validate the model.

Opportunities

Where the market is open

MyCase's 100K+ firm base is underserved. No one has built a deep, voice-first billing AI natively for MyCase. That beachhead is wide open.

The small-firm AI gap is real. Harvey AI and CoCounsel are enterprise-priced. Thousands of 2–15 attorney firms have no purpose-built AI suite. CounselKit owns that segment by default.

Bundle creates switching cost. Once a firm uses Billy + Miley + Perry together, replacing any one means replacing all three. No competitor offers this bundled depth today.

Passive + voice hybrid in v2. Adding optional background capture alongside intentional voice closes the Ajax gap — a natural upsell for existing customers.

Repeatable regional playbook. Starting in Utah with GLG, the go-to-market is repeatable: one reference per state and practice area, expand with a proven proof of concept.

Threats

What we're watching closely

Ajax already integrates with MyCase. This is the most direct threat to Billy. The differentiation story — voice vs. passive, privilege posture, human confirmation — must be sharp and front-facing.

Clio's AI roadmap is aggressive. Clio Manage AI handles billing, scheduling, and comms drafting natively. If MyCase builds its own AI billing layer, Billy's core value gets platform-commoditized.

Filevine's LOIS overlaps with Perry. LOIS does document AI natively within Filevine. Perry must be meaningfully better for GLG's exact Box + Green Filing workflow — not just "also available."

Shifting AI compliance landscape. Several states are moving toward mandatory client disclosure when AI touches case materials. This adds onboarding friction and potential firm-client pushback.

Consolidation risk. Clio and Filevine have active acquisition appetites. If Clio acquires Ajax or Filevine buys a billing AI, the competitive window narrows quickly.

Dimension CounselKit Filevine Ajax Harvey / CoCounsel

Let's build this together.

Billy development begins this week. The immediate next step is confirming MyCase Advanced-tier API access and kicking off Sprint 1. Questions or feedback? Let's talk.
